the sword.

Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”

i love this verse. i love the power of the living Word. i love that this leather-bound book, white pages with black and red ink is compared to the sharpest two-edged sword – a weapon of warfare!

i’m going to be honest: most nights than not, i sleep with my Bible right beside me. i think to myself, “the enemy seeks to steal, kill and destroy me!! why would he only attack when i’m awake? i need to have my sword by my side.” i know, it may be silly. but knowing that the spoken Words of the Savior that can break any chain and defeat any demon, is right beside me is quite a comfort!

something interesting about this verse that i acknowledged was that the Word is compared to a sword: a sword cuts things. it devours the deepest part of us (“joint and marrow”). but what if it wasn’t necessarily used as a weapon? what if it was used as a tool? i believe the Word of God, that is sharper than any two-edged sword is also meant to cut and confront anything within us that is contrary to His Word, Will, and Way for our lives. as we partake of it’s sustenance daily, we should allow it to “trim the fat” and the unnecessaries in our life, and transform us! just a thought.

thanks for reading, blog buddies!! i hope you are having a SPECTACULAR summer!! but about this heat..ugh!!

  1. Mmmm mmmm… Trim the fat. Awesome stuff. This is a great reminder that God’s Word can be used not only to fend off evil, but also to break us down and teach us how to not “live stupid”. Miss and love you, Tony!!
