:::Romans 12:1-2 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.:::
What does it truly mean to be a LIVING sacrifice? I have been dwelling on this concept of being both living, as well as a sacrifice. As a sacrifice, I immediately think about Jesus’ work on the cross. How he bore each of our sins before all. He is the true sacrificial lamb. As the living flesh, we are tempted and fall each day. Our flesh cries out for the world, yet we are to be disciplined for what is “holy, and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship”.
When I put the two of “living” and “sacrifice” together, I think of my living flesh being nailed on that cross as Jesus was. When our flesh is tempted and crying out for the worldly possessions, we must nail that living flesh right back on that cross. Because let’s face it, we ALL fall. As the body of Christ, accountability of lovingly nailing your brother or sister’s flesh on that cross after they have fallen is paramount. I again say, LOVINGLY. Help lift the spirits of your brother after they have fallen. You may be all they have.
I also believe that as we do seek to not be conformed of this world, we, as Jesus was, will be ridiculed and beaten down by society. This is another example of a living sacrifice. Totally surrendering our “status” in society is what God might require to live according to His word, His will, and His way.
These are just some thoughts the Lord has given me as I’ve pondered the true meaning of what a Living Sacrifice means. Are you willing to sacrifice your whole life for him?
